The Digifaction Approach
Solid Code, Affordability, and Expertise; what other reasons could you possibly need to choose Digifaction for your web solution?
"A hacker on a roll may be able to produce—in a period of a few months—something that a small development group (say, 7-8 people) would have a hard time getting together over a year. IBM used to report that certain programmers might be as much as 100 times as productive as other workers, or more." —Peter Seebach
The Leverage of Open Source Software
I build websites using a Content Management System (and Web Application Framework) called Drupal. What's that, never heard of it? Take a quick look at Drupal in 57 seconds. Even if you haven't heard of Drupal, you've probably been to Drupal sites — Ever seen whitehouse.gov? Visited some major music artists? Read around the blogosphere?
- See an impressive list of some high profile Drupal sites.
- Take a look at what ordinary people are doing with Drupal.
- Read about different types of sites and their case studies at Drupal.org.
By using Drupal we leverage the programming effort of tens of thousands of developers and thousands of contributed modules developed over the past eight years. It's the kind of programming powerhouse only the largest of corporations could muster on their own. As an Open Source community, Drupal developers each improve their own little part of the whole; all that work together gives us an amazing amount of leverage to quickly build you a secure, stable, and scalable website.
I also rely on many other Open Source projects that represent the best software out there, anywhere: HTMLPurifier for compliant code and XSS protection, JQuery UI for interactive effects, Gallery2 for robust gallery management, TinyMCE (and others) for rich text editing, and many more. Frankly, it's some of the best code in the world.
Flexibility and Affordability
So whether you think you can afford a site or not, it's worth a free consultation to find out. I know we're all watching every penny these days, which is nice since I can work with almost any budget; my simplest packages start at just $500. We'll invest that in your site and leave you looking like a million dollars.
While it's true that websites aren't cheap, you'd be surprised how cheap a website can be. Many companies still charge years-outdated rates. As an Open Source project, Drupal has expanded to cover the repetitive tasks of site-building, meaning my job as a developer, today, is just to midwife the birth of a site, not to build it up from DNA.
I also rely use my large code library collection from past projects I have worked on. (Options are also available for clients who wish to retain rights to code or design for their use only.) This means if you want a feature for your website and I've built something like it before, you can get it quicker, easier, and cheaper. It also means that I can take my code and turn it back into the Open Source community where it is improved even more.
Being a solo developer who telecommutes from my home office helps a lot, too. I don't spend money on gas, I get to cook a hot lunch at home, and my khakis stay neatly folded. I pass those savings on to you. After all, I'm just out to make a living, not gouge my clients with agency fees.
Proven Web Management Expertise
When you hire me, you get a background in web management that's hard to find in anyone. I started writing websites professionally in 1994, before most people knew what a website was. Images were still pretty new on the scene, and the dot-com era had yet to revolutionize the digital world. I worked freelance most of the time, went corporate to wrangle code for TowerRecords.com during the dot-com bubble years, and aside from a few autumns I took off (to learn another passion, winemaking, from the cellar up) I've been at it ever since. I've built almost every kind of site imaginable.
Many solo web developers seem to be post-college kids with a gift for geek who'd rather build websites than get a real job. I can't knock it much, because that's where I started out in 1994 as a self-taught hacker, back before there were college classes in web design. Once there were classes I went back for my BS in Information Technology with a minor in Web Management (2005). More than just knowing how to wrangle code, I have a solid background in the broader Information Technology framework that a complete web solution must sit in.
I've built sites for Tower Records, Texas Instruments, the American Lung Association, and many more happy clients whose names are lesser recognized. Put my expertise to work on your site.
I'll make sure you have a complete web solution that meets your needs now and for years to come.
